Luneur Park.

Inside the city, outside the world.

The oldest amusement park in Italy — founded at EUR in 1953 — reopened as a magical park for families, with the owl Luna as mascot and the large 33-metre ferris wheel as symbol.

The client

Luneur Park.

"The oldest amusement park in Italy." Born in 1953 at Rome's EUR — its name from the Esposizione Universale Romana for which the district had been designed — and for six decades simply known to Romans as "the EUR Luna Park".

After a long renovation, the park reopened on 27 October 2016 with a new identity: a magical park for families with young children, the Luna owl as mascot (the two "O"s of the logo are its eyes), the great 33-metre ferris wheel as symbol — the tallest in Rome.

An enchanted world of colours
and fun.

The park today

A garden-park
for little ones.

Unlike the major adrenaline parks, Luneur is designed for families with young children: attractions filtered by height, fairy-tale tone, candy-bright colours. The Luna owl accompanies visitors in every corner.

Our works for Luneur

Two projects,
two seasons for Luneur.

For the park's rebirth and for the first Luneur-branded Christmas Village, two scenographic interventions: the Magicirco columns (October 2016) and the 2017 Christmas Village. Photos from our archive for both.

Behind the scenes

The amusement-park tradition
meets the magical refounding.

Working for Luneur Park after the major renovation of 2014-2016 meant entering into dialogue with a new identity: the "magical park" curated for families with young children, far from the adrenaline attractions of the major parks. A specific visual grammar: candy colours, fairy-tale sculpture, the Luna owl as a guiding thread.

The "magical park" as concept

After decades as the old-school EUR Luna Park, Luneur is reborn in 2016 as a theme park for early childhood. Attractions filtered by height, fairy-tale tone, pastel palette. For scenography it means abandoning the classic "circus-rock" iconography of the vintage Luna Park and adopting an aesthetic close to the illustrated children's book.

The Magicirco pawn-columns

Our first commission, October 2016, is the seven pawn-columns for the Magicirco terrace: chess-pawn shapes, saturated striped colours, hand-carved polystyrene and fibreglass. They are the opening note of our dialogue with the park, delivered on the eve of the reopening of 27 October 2016.

The 2017 Christmas Village

The following year comes the first Luneur-branded Christmas Village: sculpted ice mine, snowmen, spiral lollipops, gingerbread houses, cartoon Christmas trees. It is the chance to apply our grammar of seasons to the magical park — the winter transformation, year after year.

Second life

Seven decades of amusement park,
a new magical season.

Luneur Park has crossed seven decades of Roman urban history: from the 1953 founding at EUR — among the architectures of the World's Fair quarter — to the 2016 reopening as magical park. Its identity has changed, but the position within the city has stayed the same: the theme park inside Rome, not outside.

For us it is one of the most recurring work clusters among the Italian parks — alongside Cinecittà World and Rainbow MagicLand — because Luneur has a winter season (the Christmas Village) that renews each year and a summer season with new attractions. The park's commissions continue to be part of our seasonal work calendar.
